Very clear recording,
Maynard's vocals are very crisp and is not drowned out by the venue nor the
band. Simply excellent for a mini-disc recording, at that. Maybe not
excellent compared with other sounding shows but the whole feeling or vibe
of the situation. For some reason, this is one of my favorite shows. Maybe
it is the (rather) drastic change to the set-list order. The Grudge
3rd-to-last song? That alone is interesting enough to warrant research into
this show. But I think Tool simply played a solid & intense show. This is
the product of their art. Also, the mics used are Panasonic, which are the
same capsules Core Sound Binaurals use. So, maybe that gives a bit of info
as to the general 'sound' of the recording... which is obviously quite good.
Also, this gig features a 30 second sample/loop of Die Eier Von Satan - the
only known performance/recording of since 1996. Interesting. Personally,
this is, perhaps, my single-favorite setlist / order of songs by Tool that
is known to have been performed from the Lateralus era. Hands down. I mean,
The Grudge before The Patient before Lateralus after Flood>Stinkfist w/a
little Satan-ic loop? Who could ask for much more. One of the most
interesting performances, no?
