I wasn't quite in the sweet spot, and I
think it shows a little bit. The vocals just aren't as up close and clear as I
would like them to be. Still, I think the omni mics performed pretty well in
this situation. Cardioids might have been a better choice in this spot, though.
The crowd was pretty irritating for most of the show. There were people climbing
behind me with a large beer in each hand throughout the show, it seemed. They
would step on the seat wrong and fall, spilling beer all over me and themselves.
As soon as Stinkfist started, I had a guy and girl standing up right behind me,
IN MY OWN SEAT. I think I must have looked like I was ready to kill them,
because they left pretty quickly. Also, the crowd rushed the front twice during
this show... bowling over some poor security woman. This is why I hate seats on
the floor. Anyway... despite all this, I still managed to get a recording with
only minor "local" crowd noise... most of it is just ambient noise from the
crowd in general. Very lucky I'd say. I should note that there is a small
portion of 10,000 Days that is "fixed" using another source. That source is
"Sonic Studios[DSM-6S/L] > Sonic Studios[PA-6LC3(-45)] > Edirol R-9 (24/44.1)" I
just had to do this because of the interruption caused by a security woman
yelling at several people down my row to put their cigarettes out. She basically
leaned right in to my mics. Ah well... The highlight of the show was definitely
Wings for Marie/ 10k Days. After seeing 7 shows this year, and having one show
"postponed" (Sept 12th, San Antonio) this was my last chance to see them on this
tour. Enjoy!
Notes -
by: Galen: Coming
off of a cancelled gig form 9/12 & a less than spectacular performance from
9/11, Tool was sounding at least how they should. MJK had some minor vocal
issues throughout but this was not too bad. The bass hit right throughout,
Adam's guitar-work was very smooth as Danny's drumming was both tactile and
sublime. Although there is a layer of audience chatter throughout this recording
it is by no means as bad as it possibly could have been. Strong recording of a
performance that although rough at the edges delivers the magic that those
in-tune with the nuances of Tool recognize. This is perhaps the best source for
this performance to show. 10K Days is particularly strong.
Maynardism: "Let's make this quick, I really have to piss. I'm not kidding. We're going to do half a song then I gotta go. Literally. I have to return some video tapes."
