2002
"Curl
up in front of a fireplace with a copy of Caligula & have sex."
Notes:
Tool toured extensively in 2002 in support of
Lateralus. The band basically toured the world as they did in 2001 while
making stops at various and sundry locations to deliver what became almost a
concert-staple speech by MJK; the "create something positive" mantra. Recordings
from the April-May world-tour feature not only a pleasant alternation of songs +
variations (Flood>Grudge w/o a pause) but also relatively short
performances of Tool in a festival setting. Although it is true that Tool
did not vary the set from night to night during the July-September US tour (a large chunk of the recordings available) there were several performances of
significant interest such as the unveiling of Alex Grey's artwork for use on
tour & the Christian fundamentalists that boycotted outside Tool's
performance in Texas. The final leg of touring support for Lateralus from
September-November featured Tool performing in concert venues/outlets that are
normally off of the standard concert-circuit; places such as Rapid City, SD /
East Lansing, MI / Albuquerque, NM. This leg of touring featured the welcome
addition of both Cold & Ugly + the ever-evolving, mammoth of a song,
Third Eye, with vocal support from both Bill Hicks + Dr. Timothy Leary.
