The Golden Era, Redux?

Last Updated: 10/2010

At least for some of us, the mini tour lasting from Jun 19 to July 19, was both unexpected and surprising. Unexpected because they had just toured in 2009 after a year off of touring virtually non-stop for the 10,000 Days era performing, virtually without exception, the same set as they had for years before. It was surprising that this tour was at least a somewhat dramatic departure in regards to the makeup of their set lists. The welcomed addition of Third Eye was worth the price of admission whereas the new breakdown with Intolerance was breathtaking. The Patient made a comeback this tour as did a slightly reshaped/rekeyed version of The Pot. The sold out crowd at Red Rocks were lucky enough to get the world premiere of Intension, a song Tool had been messing around with according to some fans with pressed ears against the glass of venue windows, at various sound checks. From the most die-hard Tool fan to the occasional fan who was upset Sober was not performed one thing was exceptionally clear; the band seemed to be not only in a jovial mood at shows but seemed to be truly enjoying themselves, which is nice. All in all, Tool had not changed up their repertoire like they did this tour since 1998. We hope our collective breaths waiting to see what comes next.
