1994
Disgustipated Quarter

Last Updated: 02/2008

Notes:
With the release of Sober as a single, a commercial hit for Tool that solidified their presence in the music scene, the band toured the United States, Canada & Europe with a string of headline shows to audiences that would one day say "oh yeah, I was there & they rocked my socks off". For some Tool enthusiasts, this era of touring is definitive insofar as having 'the' set lists. Of special merit and interest, the band performed on several occasions a  blistering cover of Led Zeppelin's No Quarter converged into a haunting rendition of Disgustipated - that has to be heard to be believed.  This era, on some recorded instances, highlights the disconnect + tension (rivalry?) between Paul D'Amour & MJK each vying for intellectual property rights to the meanings of songs; Paul in a joking tone & MJK in a serious tone on many occasions. Take a listen to the 07.21.1994 London, England, Shepherd's Bush recording where Paul is actually replaced by none other than Justin Chancellor (who would later take over Paul's bass-playing duties) on Sober - Paul would later, in between songs say, "Justin's a cunt". Tool also tested out beta versions soon-to-be classic songs such as Stinkfist & Pushit with alternate lyrics and musical phrasings. This year also highlights the last known FM recordings (studio sessions) that the band took part in.
