Notes on Year:
The time-period between Ænima & Undertow, specifically 1995, offered up some significant performances by Tool in regards to content and quality. Unfortunately there are not a ton of recordings by the band available. To those tapers that recorded Tool during this year, we say thank you. From rather strange on-stage antics by a male stripper(?) during 4° during the first two performances of the band to a trip down under with MJK discussing Jesus + Chinese food to a doozer of a 'year' finale with a co-headlining with Primus to bring in the year 1996 with a bang, Tool was a band that has made it but wanted more... but wanted more their way: do what they are going to do, kick the audience's ass & get off the stage. The songs performed during this era, off of the soon-to-be-released Ænima album, are raw but yet defined & simply have to be heard to be believed. This is a transition year; of significant interest is the fact that this year featured both Paul & Justin playing as a member of Tool. In some performances the tension between Paul & the rest of the band is nearly palpable.
