Band: Incubus Location: Noblesville, IN, USA @ Verizon Wireless Music Center Date: July 5, 2003
Equipment: Mini Disc --- Core Sound Binaurals (bass roll-off) > Sharp MT-180 Taping Position: 10 rows from FOS - Left
Notes: The first time I saw these guys, I simply did not care for them at all. But their performance at the opening date of Lollapalooza was rather impressive. The 'game' music of Mario Brothers by Nintendo marked Incubus hitting the stage & the crowd cheered exceptionally loud. They were rather relaxed, chilled out & professional during the set. After they were done, I realized that they seem quite cool; for all of the big rock star antics I see from the lead-singer such as taking off the shirt & grabbing hands in the audience, as a band, Incubus are all right & have a number of real stellar tunes. Boyd made some funny comments about the weather, that stalled Lollapalooza for over an hour, and brought the crowd to a cheering frenzy. Seriously, Incubus came out quite nice during the performance & when listening to the performance even months later. All in all, Incubus is worg checking out if you catch them in a shorter set; the longer/headlining sets seem to drag on a little. Wait, am I still being critical? If nothing else, the Lolla set was much more up to speed & highlighted the strengths of Incubus rather than exposing a few weak spots.
