Band: Fountains Of Wayne Location: Detroit, MI, USA @ The Shelter Date: Nov. 13, 2003
Equipment: Mini Disc --- Core Sound Binaurals > Battery Box > Sony MZ-R700 Taping Position: Front Of Stack - Left
Notes: I remember the time when, years ago, Radiation Vibe came out. I heard that song & was a bit interested & a little hooked by the power-pop melodies & catchy vibe to the tune. I purchased the mediocre, some would say great, album & checked it out a few times - 'twas allright but nothing immensly interesting, to be honest. I still have it somewhere. But when I heard that Fountains Of Wayne were touring again to get into shape for the recording of their new album, I had a weird desire to check them out. It helped that the ticket price was something like $15.00, cheap enough for me I suppose. Pretty much anything is a good time when you go to the Shelter in Detroit, if a 'known' act is playing there that is. The audience was comprised of a bunch of teen-agers, I was surprised as I thought they would have older people at least my age at the show but, no, a bunch of the ALT.WEEZER kids were the core of the audience if that makes sense to you (black-rimmed glasses, bowling shoes). The band was remarkably tight but, listening to the performance now, have a rather whuney & immature vibe to the music & lyrics. Sort of like a garage band that got lucky - plain and simple. Sort of like Guided By Voices.
