Band: Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Location: Detroit, MI, USA @ St. Andrews Hall
Date: March 26, 2003

Equipment: Mini Disc --- Core Sound Binaurals > Battery Box > Sony MZ-R700
Taping Position: Front Of Stack - Left

Notes: For an avant-garde, art-rock, experimental music, GY!BE is quite good at what it is they do. Thing is,
the music is rather un-mainstream & rather hard to understand, completely. I can see how many people would
be turned off by this particular band. Vocals are next to non-existent & they have exceptionally long songs.
According to the setlist, they played only 5 songs but performed for about 140 minutes with only a 4-5 minute
encore break. You have to respect that in a band, if nothing else. I do wish that bands would not wait until it is
after midnight to take the stage, some of us have real jobs, but if that is one of my only criticisms, than I think
thta the band did a good job. The itinerary, like most itineraries, is not accurate. Ah well. Would I go see these
guys again if they were at an opportune time? Yeah. But if they played somewhere it would be any sort of
personal inconvenience, I truly doubt I would go to their performance. Talked to the sound engineer, rare - a
woman, & noticed that they were not using a SBD for recording, they were using two microphones connected
off of the 'board-area connected to 2 MD's. One was an old Sony MD from 1998 I think, where the mechanism
opens up on the side. Interesting.
