Band: Interpol Location: Detroit, MI, USA @ St. Andrews Hall Date: Jan. 11, 2003
Equipment: Mini Disc --- Core Sound Binaurals > Battery Box > Sony MZ-R700 Taping Position: Front Of Stack - Right
Notes: This was my first time ever seeing or hearing Interpol either live or anything else. Was quite impressed. The band seems to be slightly retro, a little 1980-ish, but still has their own unique style & flair for modern interpretation of music. Something that loads of bands simply lack these days. Arrived with a friend & I, honestly, had little or no expectations, just wanted to check out something fun & have a good time - which I did. St. Andrews hall is a good place to see a concert, the venue is rather run-down & is pretty much surrounded by an urban wasteland but, nonetheless, is the epitamy of a club show. I think that Interpol fit in quite nicely, really. The show was sold out & the audience was overwhelmingly ".ALT" kids (if that makes sense). Sometimes, that irritates me a little but it seemed to be a good fit for this band. Interpol's music is rather catchy, spacy, dark but also rather poppy in a way. Hard to describe & I really do not think I will do it justice if I try to go any further. What I will say is, next time they are around Michigan & I can go see them, I shall. If you can, I suggest you check them out as well.
