Band: The Music Location: Detroit, MI, USA @ The Fox Theatre Date: March 3, 2003 Opening for: Coldplay
Equipment: Mini Disc --- Core Sound Binaurals > Battery Box > Sony MZ-R700 Taping Position: Front Of Stack - Left (seating, 3rd row)
Notes: Came late to this show but it, seriously, was not my fault. There were about three things occuring in this one block radius in Detroit and driving was insane. Traffic backed up - and that was me taking the shortest route possible. Plus, I had to park on the top of the Fox parking ramp, nasty shit. In addition, I was recovering from pnuemonia - even nastier. Then, had to run down 12 flights with my taping gear all packed up to try & make it one time. Security, like always in this post-industrial wasteland of a city, was rather nasty when I made my way through - act tough but it is hard to, I think. I mean, come on, security at a venue is not a police officer. Anyway. Concerts in downtown Detroit are odd but are similiar to many locales around the nation. People from the suberbs flock to the inner-city to see a show or be entertained in some way, nothing beats it. If I had to live in Detroit, I think I would turn to Jesus or hard alcohol - whichever would hurt less. Anyway, that was pretty much how I felt as I walked by the side entrance of the Fox Theatre, realizing that The Music were already jamming as I could plainly hear them. Walked inside, got felt up by security, geared up in the bathroom & started taping; the disc begins with me checking levels, walking & being ushered to my seat. The Music were absolutely tight this night & sounded remarkably superb. What a performance, you can seriously here the talent in this band. Not a lot of people knew who they were but they were hte only real reason I went to see this Coldplay show. As of middle 2003, I've seen The Music 3x & have heard numerous live recordings. This is the most polished I've heard them thus far. Unfortuantely, due to my arriving late & a complete -dumb ass- sitting next to me ("hey, is that my seat?" - also talked during Coldplay) the recording is a little less than it had the potential to be. I still listen to this quite a bit though, this band was simply great this night. This is also the best version of Getaway I've yet heard... it's like an anthem to the children of rock n' roll. Or something like that. Check it out for yourself.
