Notes: The main reason I went to this show was to check out SOuth, who ended up opening up for Elbow this
night; they had a co-headlining tour going on. Before this performance, I had absolutely no idea who or what
Elbow was about. All I can really say is after I saw this band perform, I was pretty much hooked as a fan.
These guys are absolutely fantastic. Not only do they have a rather diverse sound(s) but also have an incredibly
mesmorizing tender side that will melt any heart or attitude. The haunting 'Newborn' is not only disturbingly
enchanting but also intoxicating in it's nature. The lead singer has perhaps one of the best voices in modern
English rock, but that is only my opinion of course. After the show, the band simply left the stage, grabbed
beers, then walked & talked to people in the audience. They just were hanging out with fans, shooting the shit
just like regular people. Then again, so was SOuth, which was equally interesting to me. I talked to each band
member of Elbow except for the drummer & they all happilly signed my setlist I grabbed from the sound
engineer. This stuff does not happen at every show, at least for me. Pete, the bassist, I actually sat & chatted for
a few minutes about modern music & he was rather intrigued, for some reason, about the historical ramifications
of my name: Galen. Apparently, his brother is also named Galen
(or something like that) so we had something
interesting, in a way, to discuss. And yes, the lead singer did misspell my name but hey, I've seen & heard
worse. As it is, I highly recommend Elbow. Check them out, buy them a beer. Tell Pete I said hello.
