Notes: To be honest, I wasn't familiar nor was I in the right frame of mind to really seea 3.5 hour concert ona Tuesday night when school loomed early the next morning. In fact, we left after the first encore, about 2.75 hours through, very late. But looking back & listening to this band, damn, they are really good. I think the only description I can think of is: college rock. It seems like this is a college band that sort of just became a professional college band. They've been around for years. Songs are short, seem to have the same vibe but tell a story with each one. Interesting. GBV rocks, seriously, I kid you not. Really, I would like to check these guys out again. Now, this show + recording is one of my favorites, listen to it at least once a month in it's entirity. Not like power-pop but just cool music. Example: "planet destruction, life without a care - I wish I could give a shit, just a little bit - oh, lethargy, lethargy, lethargy!" The band members are in their late 30's, early 40's & really seemed to like to drink. I heard that the lead singer has written something like 4,000 songs - noen of which are recorded. They went through 3 cases of different kinds of beer, lead singer was giving some out to people in the audience if he showed them "wrinkles - if you are over 21, you have wrinkles." Man, they got wasted at this show, I've heard that they get wasted at all their shows also but I've never witnessed a band get slammed on stage - and, odd thing is, they sounded better when they were wasted. Ha.
Setlist Attained?: Yes -- when the band walked off the stage for encore, I jumped up onto the stage & grabbed the drummer's setlist. When I crawl back down, some guy asks what the encore is. I saw the drummer look for his list of songs & decided it was a good time to leave. No sense in getting into a tiff.
