Notes: You know how couples sometimes have 'their song or thier group'? Well, Belle & Sebastian are Sarah & our group for the simple reason that we both really like this band + the fact that we saw them at the Royal Albert Hall in London. They are from Scotland & are a bit folky but are just amazing artists with in-depth meanings of their songs that usually have harmonious, happy melodies surrounded by lush strings/guitars mixed with dark lyrics about suicide, prostitution, capitalism & the unknown. Odd stuff but, they have a really positive vibe to their music & make us feel good. Somethign quite interesting, they had some 'hecklers' in the audience this night. The hecklers were puppets of the two grumpy old men from Sesamee Street, you know, the guys in tuxes who criticize everything. The puppets kept making comments over the PA about how shoddy the band plays. So, the lead singer goes into the crowd & picks out a girl to sing any B&S song she wants to. Very cool. We were overseas back in '01 on a study-abroad trip through our Univ. & were stationed in London. Managed to find a scalper & bought the sold-out tix for $40 America (each) & had just a great time. The recording is very good & features a drunk Scotsman singing a few lines until he is excorted out for drinking out of a flask in the Hall. If you ever get a chance to see Belle & Sebastian, check it out. This show has & most likely will remain as one of my favorite recordings & concert experiences ever.
